How to Download Instagram Reels and Stories in HD
Instagram makes it easy to watch Reels and Stories, but saving them to your device is another story entirely. The app doesn't offer a native download button for other people's content. This guide covers everything you need to know about downloading Instagram media in full quality, from copying the right link to saving the file on your phone or computer.
Reels vs. Stories: Understanding the Difference
Before we get into the how-to, it helps to understand what you are working with. Instagram Reels are short-form videos (up to 90 seconds) that live permanently on a creator's profile and in the Reels tab. They are similar to TikTok videos and are designed for discovery — Instagram actively recommends them to users who don't follow the creator.
Stories, on the other hand, are ephemeral. They disappear after 24 hours unless the creator saves them as a Highlight. Stories can be photos, videos, polls, quizzes, or a mix of media. How to Copy an Instagram Link
The first step for any download is getting the link. The process differs slightly depending on the content type:
For Reels
Open the Reel and tap the three-dot menu icon (usually in the bottom-right corner or next to the creator's name). Select “Copy Link” or “Share to...” and then “Copy Link.” On desktop, right-click the Reel page URL in your browser's address bar and copy it.
For Stories
While viewing a Story, tap the three-dot menu at the bottom-right and select “Copy Link.” Note that this option is only available for public accounts. If the account is private, you will need to be a follower and the link may not work with third-party tools.

- Use for personal purposes. Downloading Instagram content for personal viewing, inspiration, or reference is generally acceptable. Reposting it as your own is not.
